Hotel Virreyes

Manuel Méndez

Every city has an iconic hotel, and in Mexico City that would be the Hotel Virreyes. Situated at the crossroads of two of the busiest streets in the world, the hotel has descended into bohemian decadence since it first opened its doors in 1947 as one of the city’s premiere luxury hotels. Today, it is home to an international family of artists, students and refugees. They’re not just staying here: they live here. Some have lived here for years. In this documentary film, we will hear their stories. Hotel Virreyes is an intimate portrait of life inside this classic residential hotel in downtown Mexico City, as told by one of its residents.
